Session one: Advanced Planned Gifts for Optimal Impact

Presented by:    Gordon P. Smith, MBA, CFRE, Associate Vice President of Development, Planned Giving -  National Jewish Health

Join us as we welcome Gordon Smith of National Jewish Health to discuss donor centric fundraising geared to successfully approach your Board and top donors.

Understanding your top donor’s perspective and approaching them on their level and within their timeline is critical to success. This presentation will explore elements of Blended Giving and how to present to your best prospects.

About Gordon: Gordon was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Before going into planned giving, Gordon worked as a financial consultant, where he obtained experience in estate planning, business succession planning, insurance, and investment management. This provided a wonderful springboard to planned giving and the work he does for National Jewish Health where he has been since September of 1995.

As the Associate Vice President for Development, Planned Gifts, Gordon is responsible for planned and major gifts. This includes cultivating relationships from marketing through stewardship with expertise in the areas of charitable trusts, gift annuities, bequests and gifts of complex assets and he works with supporters throughout the country.

Gordon recently finished a three year term on the Board of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and has been a long time member of The Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable, serving first on the CPGR Board in 2001 and again in 2011. He is a frequent speaker for CPGR, the National Association for Charitable Gift Planners national conference and at various Planned Giving Councils around the country. In 2017 Gordon started a sideline consulting business, Guiding Philanthropic Services, LLC, working with small and mid-size nonprofits on increasing success by building the individual giving program.

Session Two: Nonverbal Communication: The Hidden Message

    Presented by: Bill Acheson

Our second session will feature a dynamic and engaging presentation on nonverbal communication.  For years, conventional wisdom recommended that professionals should mirror the body language of prospects and clients to establish rapport. Upon closer inspection, unfortunately, we find that when meeting for the first time in a professional setting, people often feel insecure, defensive, or even wary. Mirroring their behavior makes you seem that way to them!

This presentation reveals effective ways to connect with others in your professional life. ‘They have to buy you, as a person, before they will agree to buy anything from you.’

About Bill: Bill taught at the University of Pittsburgh for over 20 years. As an expert in nonverbal communication, he has spoken to thousands of professionals about how to improve their skills. Bill has worked with employees from such organizations as 3M, AIG, Bank of America, Bayer, GSK, Jackson, Lexus, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Trane, Wells Fargo, the US Coast Guard, and the National Football League.

Please note: The attendance fee for non-members of PPPRI is now $60.

    Thank you to our sponsors.
