Modern Family Estate Planning: Same-Sex Couple
Considerations
Presented by: Johnni Hays, JD
Take your knowledge about estate planning to another level by learning what obstacles and roadblocks exist for donors in same-sex relationships. While a handful of states, including Vermont, recognize same-sex marriage and spousal rights, the federal government does not – even for those in same sex marriage states. This makes it even more critical than ever for same-sex couples to employ valid estate plans to make sure their loves ones are taken care of. Special attention must be given to planning with qualified retirement plans, federal income, estate and gift tax planning, etc. Having an understanding of the estate planning issues facing same-sex couples will improve your ability to build and foster relationships with these prospective donors.
In lieu of a separate ‘back to basics’ topic this session will be complemented by a panel discussion on same-sex couple considerations.

Effectively Integrated Donor Proposal for Annual, Major and Planned Gifts

This session will share techniques for integrating fundraising programs in order to maximize all types of gifts: annual, major and planned. Ideas will be shared emphasizing the significant roles of the case for support, goal setting, policies, donor recognition, leadership of the board and other important strategies. Special attention will be given to creating an effectively integrated proposal to make the ‘ask’ for annual, major and planned gifts.
